“The Supernatural Is Natural”

Studio Brynjar & Veronika

Studio Brynjar & Veronika is a dynamic art and design collaboration between Brynjar Sigurðarson and Veronika Sedlmair. Based in Immenstadt, Germany, the Icelandic-German studio fuses a variety of artistic media, often blurring the boundaries between myth and reality.

For over a decade, Veronika and Brynjar have crafted an enchanting portfolio, inspired by theatrical and natural phenomena. The artists’ work is a weave of anthropology, geology, and storytelling, creating a tapestry of imaginative and thought-provoking pieces. In their work, the duo employs a range of media, including drawings, photographs, video, sound, and objects, to bring their unique vision to life.

This artistic vision has been on full display in a diverse array of projects over the years. From the Silent Village furniture collection for Galerie Kreo in Paris, to the innovative Circle Flute supported by Lafayette Anticipations in Paris, which was a staple in Björk’s Cornucopia concert tour. The studio’s creativity has also been harnessed in projects for crystal manufacturer Swarovski, as well as a collection for Thomas Eyck.

Between 2018 and 2020, Veronika and Brynjar’s work has featured in private exhibitions at museums across the world, including the Design Museum in Helsinki, the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg, and the Hafnarborg Museum in Iceland. Their site-specific installation, Animated Geology, was among the highlights of the 44th edition of the Tendenser (Tendencies) exhibition series in Moss, Norway.

Between 2016 and 2017, the pair undertook an ambitious project in collaboration with archaeologists from the MDAA Archaeological Museum in Arles and Atelier LUMA in Arles. Their work was later documented and published in a book by independent Dutch publisher Onomatopee in November 2015, which was curated by design writer Sophie Krier and beautifully designed by ÉricandMarie.

Studio Brynjar & Veronika has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Swiss Design Awards and a Swarovski Designers of the Future Award in Design Miami/Basel. Brynjar’s abilities have earned him the prestigious Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize, and he has been sharing his expertise as a teacher at ECAL-École cantonale d’art de Lausanne since 2013.

Their artistic journey continues with a host of exciting projects, including Glass Research with CIRVA in Marseille,  new objects for Galerie Kreo in Paris, beautiful site-specific wall reliefs, a performative project in collaboration with Icelandic metal singers, and a public installation for Ornamenta 24 in Pforzheim, Germany. With a boundless passion for art and design, Studio Brynjar & Veronika is constantly pushing the limits of what’s possible.
